Reviews - What do our customers think?
A good reference and study guide  May 27, 2010
I found this book to be a fantastic reference and a good study guide. I liked the chronological approach and found the information in the book gave an interesting perspective to my own Bible study. I would have liked the font to be a bit larger and some of the page lay outs were a bit busy to look at, however the book is still quite readable both in presentation and content. The content is detailed without being dry and as I read parts of the book I was inspired to open my Bible more and more for a personal encounter with both the book and the great Author - the aspiration of any good Bible reference!

Review of the "Chronological Guide To The Bible"  May 10, 2010
The "Chronological Guide To The Bible" is a great tool that will enhance your personal Bible study. Many times our view of Biblical history is distorted by the fact that the books of the Bible are not necessary written in chronological order. This resource helps remedy that problem. This full-color guide presents nine periods of biblical history.

This book will enhance your personal study by enabling you to understand the natural setting of biblical events in the correct order. Each book of the Bible is assigned to a particular period of time and is described in a brief introductory paragraph. An outline and an explanation of historical, non-biblical events is also provided for each book.

In summary, while this book is not a commentary nor intended to replace other study aids, it will enhance your personal Bible study by helping you understand that chronological order of biblical events.

A Valuable Study Resource  May 8, 2010
Reading the Bible in chronological order of when events happened versus reading it in the canonical order can give the reader a new perspective on scripture. But it can be difficult to find a chronological Bible with just the right features and in a preferred translation. Some include commentary, others don't. Enter the "Chronological Guide to the Bible: Explore God's Word in Historical Order." It's a guide written by 13 contributors that can be used with any translation of the Bible.

The authors are clear in acknowledging that there are other possible arrangements to the chronological order of the Bible since some books do not give enough information to determine exactly when they were written. In a chronological Bible, the books are rearranged for reading cover to cover. This guide includes a reading guide with passages listed in order and it accompanies the readers' own Bible. It includes little check boxes next to each passage in case the reader wants to read through the entire Bible in order or it can be used to read scripture from specific eras. The authors divide the Bible into nine epochs of time.

The book is attractive in full color with images on every other page. I'm impressed by the amount of information included. Each epoch section in the book includes a visual time line showing when events happened as well as a "time capsule" listing significant events. There is background story about books of the Bible that relate to the culture of the time. There are outlines of each book and commentary on main themes in each epoch that read like mini historical articles. The top of each page lists the historical century for each epoch, making it easy to find information. It's packed with information and a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to study the Bible in more detail. The only thing I suggest could have been added to the book is a single page list of the chronological order for a quick checklist for reading. This would save the reader some searching through the book.

I received a free review copy of this book from Thomas Nelson publishers in exchange for my fair and honest review.

The Chronological Guide to the Bible  Apr 29, 2010
There are times when I am thoroughly confused by the Bible. I understand the message, and the passages themselves, but I get confused because the Bible isn't in chronological order.

The Chronological Guide to the Bible is organized very neatly into nine epochs beginning with Creation and ending with Revelation. Each section includes beautiful illustrations and artwork, a time line, a reading guide and detailed maps. I found this guide to the Bible easy to read and written in clear, concise language. The Chronological Guide to the Bible works with any translation and all 66 books of the Bible are included.

Particularly interesting to me is the introduction to the Chronological Guide. The introduction explained to me, some interesting points about the Bible itself, such as who wrote the texts, when they wrote them and why the texts were written. It also included an explanation as to how the Chronological Guide was arranged.

The Chronological guide to the Bible is a great reference book. Used along with a study Bible, the Chronological Guide can help to give a deeper understanding of the people, places and history of any part of the Bible.

The Chronological Guide to the Bible retails for $24.99 and is well worth the price.

Yes. You should buy it.  Apr 27, 2010
Have you ever wanted to rip out all the commentary from your NIV Study Bible, combine those pages with the Message prefaces and staple them together so you'd have them all in one place? This book is that Pocket Guide of Commentaries. A canon of context, timelines, charts and maps all neatly fit in 200 colorful pages. Particularly refreshing is the tone. The book passes information as if a conversation not a lecture.

I love it for personal study but probably more so for leading. It's just enough to illuminate without suffocating participants.

Is it an exhaustive guide? I'm not going to answer that.

Should you own one for yourself, your group, your kids...? Yes.
