Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | disappointed that it does not have any subtitle Apr 26, 2010 |
| I am kind of disappointed that it does not have any English subtitle for this DVD movie, the people in Hong Kong cannot catch 100% the important points in the movie. | | | | the Squandering Son, fleshed out 2000 years later... Mar 15, 2010 |
| The most impressive aspect of this portrayal, to me, is how very realistically it shows the life of an American version of Jesus' parable. True, America has decayed noticeably since the time of the screenwriting & filming, but the heart of this prodigal - both his "good" intentions and his preoccupation with himself (some might call it hedonism, but it goes deeper than that), is on display throughout. From the hippie dope-smoking with his live-in girlfriend to his hotshot tennis stardom, we see him flying down the roads in his newly acquired Porsche[?] - courtesy of his wealthy new girlfriend whose self-centeredness rivals his own, realizing he's just her "boy-toy" and leaving her, challenged by the consistent Christian life being lived out by his loving brother, bothered by the "churchianity" of his parents, and finally coming to the end of his own resources and surrenders his heart to his Maker. This story is convincing and convicting; well done. We've owned it for nearly 20 years, watched it dozens of times and still appreciate its quality. Highly recommended. Two appropriate cameos with Billy. | | | | Modern Reworking of Biblical Parable Feb 10, 2010 |
| Starring John Hammond, Arliss Howard. This is a reworking of the Biblical parable, the prodigal son but set in our own times, or at least the time the movie was originally released in 1983, running time of 109 minutes. Directed by James Collier, who directed other Christian movies such as Cry on the Mountain, The Hiding Place, Beyond the Next Mountain, and China Cry. I am glad that Billy Graham Ministries is getting this rereleased onto DVD. They have also rereleased on DVD - Beyond the Next Mountain, and The Hiding Place. Also see the new titles by Billy Graham, movies made with well known actors and big budgets, including Something to Sing About, Last Flight Out, Road to Redemption, and The Climb. | | | Write your own review about Prodigal
